As a Brooklyn-based organization, it’s always exciting to highlight and partner with other Brooklyn-based businesses. For the 5th installment of our 1ON1 With: executive discussion series featuring renown music executive Jojo Brim, we partnered up with, an online boutique founded in 2012 by childhood friends Marvin Lee and Leighton Murdock. With the philiosophy that “every outfit starts with the shoes,” Tekkies (a South African slang term for trainers/ sneakers/ kicks), brings men classic & trend setting footwear for all occasions. Hit the jump for a brief Q&A with owners Marvin and Leighton. 

What inspired you to start Tekkies BK?

Tekkies was inspired by a passion for footwear that we shared. Our goal is to provide men with a great option of footwear. We also want our customers to be fashionable with comfort. We will continuously introduce new designers.

What sets Tekkies BK apart from other online boutiques?

The brands we carry at Tekkies, and our customer service sets us apart from our competitors. We sell fashion based footwear, apparel, and various accessories. All orders are shipped in a timely fashion with a few promotional items in the box.

How did the two of you meet?

We grew up two doors apart in the Crown Heights section of Brooklyn. That childhood friendship turned into a business partnership for Tekkies.

Something you wish you knew now that you didn’t know when you started your business?

Marketing! It’s probably the most important tool for any business.
