This past Tuesday, August 19th at BRIC Arts Media House Downtown Brooklyn, Minds Behind the Music hosted a very candid talk with the charismatic music business veteran Jojo Brim. Jojo, 43, who went from literally holding Al B. Sure’s bags to become Senior Vice President of A&R at Epic Records and General Manager of LaFace Records, dropped gem after gem about what it has taken him to be successful and stay relevant in the music business for over 25 years.
Adding value, developing trust and maintaining integrity at all costs are just a few of the themes touched upon that evening. Jojo also openly spoke on the lack of diversity at the executive level in the business and on the racist business practices in radio. There were also numerous funny stories Jojo shared about his longtime friends and colleagues Kevin Liles, Russell Simmons and L.A. Reid. This was hands down one of our best 1ON1 With: executive chats to date. You will be a tough act to follow Jojo!
Hit the jump for a few photos from that evening. A major thank you again to Tekkies BK for making this wonderful event possible and providing me with the fly Kanye crew-neck for the evening!
